Mouth Monsters Not Permitted in Muscatine
A recent letter from the City of Muscatine has evicted the once resident Mouth Monsters from 2023 Cedar Plaza Dr. The letter dated December 7th, 2015 ended the residency. The letter stated that the Monsters violated Section 10-19-2(A) of City Code. The code requires that signage meet City Code. The city cited that no permits were issued for signage on the property.
Tooth D.K., Ginger Bite Us, and Tartar the Terrible took acknowledgement to the letter from the city and disappeared on December 11th after the letter was received. General Manager of the property Dr. Jarod Johnson stated, “I’ve had a lot of positive feedback to the Mouth Monsters at my office. It has generated a conversation. We’re trying to raise awareness about the oral health of children. Dental decay is the number one chronic disease of childhood; a disease that is preventable.”
The Mouth Monster campaign started by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) turned two years old this year. The campaign was created to improve oral health awareness nationwide. The organization has provided material to Pediatric Dentists to use for patient education. When the AAPD was notified of the Mouth Monsters in Muscatine the response was positive. Erika Oeft Public Relations Senior Manager wrote in an e-mail, “Love the Mouth Monsters outside your office, Dr. Johnson!! They look great. We truly appreciate your support on our campaign.”
When asked if this was an end to the Mouth Monsters Dr. Jarod stated, “While this is a setback for the Monsters we have to play by the rules. I have been impressed by campaign, and I will continue to support it to have a positive impact on the oral health of children in Muscatine.”
