Dr. Jarod Slated to Speak at National Meeting

Dr. Jarod Johnson has been accepted to present at the Annual Session of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry in 2017. The meeting will be held in Washington, DC. Dr. Jarod will present in the Mini Clinics and String of Pearls Sessions. This the second consecutive year that Dr. Jarod has been selected as an educator.

It’s Fun to Stay at the YMTA – A Review of Clinical Uses of MTA in Pediatric Dentistry
This course is designed to improve dental skills in the pulpal management of primary and permanent teeth impacted by trauma or caries. Specifically the course will review current research on mineral trioxide aggregate and provide treatment protocols for the uses in pediatric dentistry.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify clinical uses of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) in pediatric patients. Specifically the presentation will address direct pulp capping, pulpotomies, apical barriers, and regenerative endodontics.
- Implement clinical techniques utilized to treat primary and permanent teeth with MTA. Protocols for procedures will be outlined and demonstrated with clinical cases.
- Recognize and understand the handling properties of MTA to be able to apply the material to suit various clinical situations.
Pulp Fiction: Top Ten Myths of the Primary Dental Pulp
Formocresol has been the gold standard for many years in vital pulpal therapy in the primary dentition. Recent developments in materials; led by MTA, challenge old standards. This presentation reviews common misconceptions about the primary dental pulp as it relates to caries and trauma for pulpal therapy.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the biological basis for pulp therapy in the primary dentition as it relates to trauma and caries.
- Identify reasons for failure of pulpal therapy in the primary dentition, and common misconceptions of success verses survival.
- Distinguish primary teeth with favorable prognosis form those with poor or questionable prognosis to assist parents with decision making in relation to a treatment plan.
The meeting will be attended by general dentists, pediatric dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and their staff.
